Requesting an Extension

To request an extension, file Form 4868 by the regular due date of your return. You can file online, by mail, or through a tax professional. The extension will give you until October 16th to file your return.

Note: Filing an extension does not extend the deadline for paying your taxes. You must still pay any taxes owed by April 18th.
