Akira Schmid, the 22-year-old Swiss goaltender, has quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the National Hockey League (NHL). Hailing from Flawil, Switzerland, Schmid embarked on his professional hockey journey in his home country, playing for the ZSC Lions in the Swiss National League (NLA).

In 2021, Schmid made the leap across the Atlantic, signing a contract with the New Jersey Devils of the NHL. The Devils, impressed by his exceptional skills and potential, had drafted him 132nd overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
