Akira Schmid Loaned to Utica Comets by New Jersey Devils

Schmid's Future with Devils Unclear

The New Jersey Devils have sent Swiss goaltender Akira Schmid down to their AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets. The move comes after the Devils acquired Jake Allen and Kaapo Kahkonen in separate trades last Friday, leaving Schmid as the team's third-string goaltender.

Schmid has struggled to find his footing in the NHL this season, posting a 3-7-0 record with a 4.18 GAA and .875 save percentage in 10 games. His trade value has plummeted as a result, and his future with the Devils looks increasingly bleak.

In the meantime, Schmid will report to the Comets and try to regain his form. The 23-year-old has shown promise in the past, but he will need to prove himself at the AHL level before he can earn another chance with the Devils.

Schmid's loan to the Comets is a clear sign that the Devils are not counting on him as part of their future plans. It remains to be seen whether he can turn his career around in Utica, but his time with the Devils appears to be coming to an end.
